Sandstone Technologies » Premium testing and service suite.

» Sandstone Technologies extensive testing process, coupled with a comprehensive pre and post-sale service model ensure, consistent performance as well as peace of mind for Sandstones global partners.

Each optical transceiver produced by Sandstone Technologies undergoes an extensive testing routine to ensure performance and consistency over time in order to provide both, a rock-solid product, and peace of mind for Sandstone partners.

Sandstone’s reputation for delivering superior, highly reliable products starts with our on-site engineers, programming, testing, and certifying every unit to our client’s precise specifications.

Sandstone has developed a world-class, state-of-the-art testing facility to allow us to offer industry standard-setting testing procedures in multiple network systems including wireless, IP, GPON & optical.

Sandstones 7 step testing process:

1 » Physical inspection, As the parts are manufactured, each unit is checked for physical defects. This examination is of the housing, label, and latching mechanisms.

2 » EEprom verification, Each unit is read on a coding board and saved in the event that the code needs to be compared at a later date. The code is checked to ensure compliance to MSA standards or specific coding requirements where desired. This check involves confirming the code has been applied correctly to meet the requirements set forth to the specific unit. The following lists the areas focused on:

  • Compliance meets the desired function
  • Distance is advertised properly
  • The part number is correct
  • Revision level correct
  • Vendor-specific area meets criteria
  • Confirm that all checksums are calculated properly

3 » Wavelength check, Using our HP 86120B each unit’s laser is confirmed to be correct. The units are checked to be within their individual specified range as per datasheet value.

4 » Network test, Each unit is placed in the intended network system and tested to ensure no errors are present.

5 » Temperature cycle, Commercial to industrial: A temperature cycle test is performed for units that exceed commercial temperature ranges; commercial.

  • Commercial: 0 to 70 °C
  • Extended: -10 to 85 °C
  • Industrial: -40 to 90 °C

For Extended range: Units are brought to +70°C ambient and held for 2 hours. Parts are considered passed if at the end of the heat cycle no errors have been counted. For Industrial or better: Units are tested to both ends of the range. Temperature is brought to +85°C ambient for 30 minutes and then dropped to -40°C for 30 minutes. Following this, the chamber is brought back to +85°C ambient for 2 hours dropped to -40°C again for 2 hours, and set to rest at +25°C. The units are checked for errors and considered passed if no errors are counted.

6 » Lens cleaning, following all testing prior to shipment, all units have the transmitter and receiver lenses inspected for dirt. The units are cleaned and re-inspected until all material is removed. Each unit is moved to an inventory location prior to shipment/order processing.

7 » Final network test / simulation, This rigorous testing procedure enables Sandstone to offer the guarantee of a 0.1% defect rate on all our range of optical transceivers.

This rigorous testing procedure enables Sandstone to offer the guarantee of a 0.1% defect rate on all our range of optical transceivers.
